My buddy's comment about the Wind River High Route made me pause

We were looking at my map for a 7 day trip in Wyoming and I was pointing out all the passes I wanted to bag. He just said, 'Man, you're planning a route, not an experience.' It hit different because I realized I was just connecting dots on a map to make it hard, not to actually see anything cool. Now I'm rethinking the whole plan to include more time at some lakes he mentioned. Anyone else get too focused on the miles and forget to plan for the good spots?

So you were basically planning a spreadsheet with mountains? Been there... I once spent a whole trip just staring at my own feet trying to hit a mileage goal.

Sounds like a weird way to see the world.

Exactly, it's not like I need a color-coded system to enjoy fresh air. But hey, some people track every step like they're training for a marathon. Makes me wonder if they ever actually look up from their phone to see the view. I'd rather wing it and end up lost in a random forest, honestly. Spreadsheets are for work, not for escaping work. Let the mountains be mountains, not data points.
