Rant: Chose the coastal trail over the forest route and regretted it hard

Last month I had to pick between two routes in Olympic National Park: the Ozette Loop along the coast or the Hoh River Trail through the rainforest. I went with the Ozette Loop because I figured ocean views would be more interesting. Big mistake. Coastal trail was 90 percent slippery rocks and mud, no joke. My boots were soaked by mile 2 and I spent the whole time trying not to twist an ankle. The Hoh would have been way easier underfoot with its packed dirt path. Anyone else pick a trail based on scenery and end up hating the actual hike?

Wait, the Hoh River Trail is mostly flat packed dirt, not the rainforest trail with roots everywhere.

Gotta disagree a bit here @knight.xena, that trail has plenty of rooty spots near the old growth sections. Maybe it's mostly flat, but you're still stepping over stuff.

Nobody ever talks about the hidden roots under the leaves, those are the REAL ankle breakers.
