Spent $180 on a Garmin inReach Mini and honestly think it’s overkill for weekend hikes

I felt the same way until I had to use mine after I took a wrong turn and ended up hiking in the dark. That little device gave me the SOS function and my wife could track me the whole time, which was a huge relief. Now I see it as cheap insurance even for short trips.

That depends if you ever get caught out after dark with a dead phone battery and no cell service.
