Why does nobody talk about trail erosion on the PCT near Mount Whitney?

I hiked a section of the PCT last month near Mount Whitney and the trail was way worse than I expected. There were these deep ruts from last year's rain that made it feel like walking in a ditch for 2 miles. I had to hop off to the side a bunch and that just messes up the plants even more. Has anyone else noticed sections like this getting worse on popular routes?

Guess I see it differently, the trail grinds down and changes every year just like it always has.

Respectfully, the trail changes a lot more now than it used to back in the day. The rangers and regulars say the rain and foot traffic really reshape it fast compared to ten years ago. Hard to call it natural when people are rerouting it every season.
