Finally figured out why my finches kept disappearing

I had a feeder right next to my kitchen window for 2 years. Thought it was perfect. Then a Cooper's hawk smashed into the glass chasing a goldfinch. Bird died, hawk flew off stunned. Moved the feeder 15 feet away from the house. Now I see 3-4 finches every morning. Anybody else make this mistake with window placement?

Sucks when you figure it out after losing a few. Glad you got it sorted though. Those hawks are smart, they learn your setup quick.

Yeah honestly I used to think they were just dumb birds that got lucky. But after watching one dismantle my decoy spread in like two minutes flat, I completely changed my tune. They're definitely paying attention way more than I gave them credit for.
