Had a nice chat with my elderly neighbor Margaret about her bird feeder setup
Last Saturday I was out trimming my bushes and Margaret came over to say hi. She started telling me how she's been putting out black oil sunflower seeds for 12 years now but still can't get cardinals to stay very long. I mentioned I've had good luck with a platform feeder near some bushes where they can hide. She wrote down what I said and said she'd try it. Has anyone else found a specific feeder that cardinals seem to prefer?

That platform feeder near bushes is exactly the trick - I put mine right next to a juniper bush and now I get cardinals all morning long. They like to eat and then dart back into the cover real quick so they feel safe.

Yeah Gavinperez nailed it. I've got mine like 4 feet from a big holly bush and the cardinals just hop right out, grab a seed, and bounce back in. Feels like they trust the setup way more than the open ones. Also helps keep the squirrels from getting too comfortable lol.
