Just realized I prefer suet feeders over seed tubes for winter birds

Everyone in my local group pushes black oil sunflower seeds but I switched to suet blocks back in November after getting tired of cleaning up spilled hulls. My yard has way more woodpeckers and nuthatches now, plus zero waste to rake up. Anyone else find suet works better in cold months?

You tried the upside-down suet feeder trick? Keeps starlings off. I hang two at different heights. Woodpeckers hit the low one, nuthatches take the high one. Also noticed chickadees grab chunks and fly off, no mess at all. My seed tube collects dust now.

Oh for sure, the upside-down trick is a game changer. I took it a step further and added a baffle to the pole - stops the squirrels from even TRYING to get to the low feeder. My nuthatches actually seem to prefer the chaos of competing with the chickadees over the suet now.
