Just tossed a $40 'squirrel-proof' feeder after watching a gray squirrel dismantle it in under ten minutes.
What's a feeder that's actually held up for you guys?

You're right about the spite, but I went the other way. I started putting out a little pile of cheap peanuts away from the feeder. It's like a squirrel toll. They check the peanuts first now and leave the feeder alone most of the time. It's not perfect, but it turns a war into a weird little bargain.

Stop trying to beat the squirrels, you will lose. They have nothing but time and spite. I gave up and just got a cheap platform feeder they can raid, it's less frustrating. Watching them figure stuff out is kind of the point anyway.

Four years and seven feeders later and I'm right there with you. I bought one of those expensive "squirrel proof" feeders that was supposed to be the end of it. They figured it out in about three days and now treat it like a jungle gym. I finally just stuck a cheap tray feeder on a shepherd's hook and accepted my fate. There's something genuinely funny about watching them hang upside down like little acrobats while they stuff their faces. It's way less stressful than feeling like I'm in some kind of backyard arms race I was never going to win anyway.
