My $80 heated birdbath was a total lifesaver this winter
I live in Michigan and the regular bath would freeze solid in hours, so the birds had nothing. Bought this one with a built in heater and thermostat online last November. It kept a small circle of water open even during that deep freeze we had in January. Anyone else use one and have tips on keeping the cord safe from squirrels?

Oh man, that's a game changer for the birds! Something I never see talked about is the power cord itself giving off a little heat. I wrapped my extra cord length in a spiral and buried it under a thin layer of mulch right near the bath. It makes a warm spot that bugs and worms move into, which gives the birds a double food source while they're there. Just a little extra help for them in the cold.

Burying a live power cord in mulch... what could possibly go wrong? Piper, you're one socket short of a full extension cord there.

You buried a power cord on purpose?
