My feeder log hit 40 species last Tuesday and I almost missed the one that did it
I started writing down every bird I saw at my feeders back in January, mostly just to kill time while drinking my morning coffee on the porch in Eugene. Last Tuesday I was one away from 40 species for the year and figured it would be something boring like a house finch. Then a red breasted nuthatch landed on the suet cage while I was refilling my mug, and I stood there with the pot in my hand like an idiot until it flew off. Took me 11 months to get 40, but 8 of those came in the last 6 weeks once I added a bird bath and stopped mowing the back corner. What do you all use to keep track, a notebook or one of those apps?
