My uncle told me to put a pie tin full of water on the patio to attract birds

He swore up and down that robins love a good splash in a shallow pan, so I set one out last Tuesday. For three days, nothing touched it except a few ants. Then on Friday, a squirrel fell in trying to reach a peanut, panicked, and flipped the whole thing onto my sliding glass door. Now I have a muddy water streak I can't get off and the birds still use the old birdbath. Has anyone else had a relative's weird bird tip backfire spectacularly?

Honestly, my aunt told me to hang old CDs in my fruit trees to scare off birds. Tbh it just made my yard look like a weird disco and the birds didn't even care.
