That window feeder I hung last month broke off in a storm and scattered seed all over the patio.
Took me 30 minutes to sweep it all up and now I'm thinking of building a wooden shelf feeder instead of buying another cheap plastic one, has anyone had luck with a DIY setup?

Big thumbs up to Skyler's cedar picket idea. That stuff handles weather way better than the cheap plastic ones. @abby_king22 I would go with just a shelf and a small lip on the front edge to hold the seed in. A full roof can get complicated and heavy, and you really just need a flat spot that drains well. Drilled a couple drainage holes in mine too, so water doesn't pool up and rot the wood. Took me maybe an hour to cut and screw together a simple L-bracket shelf, and it's been holding strong through three seasons already. What kind of birds are you hoping to attract with the new one?
