The squirrel-proofing battle for my feeders took 5 months and I finally cracked it last Saturday
I started with a cheap baffle from the hardware store and that squirrel figured it out in about 20 minutes, so I went to a pole mount and he shimmied up anyway. Then I tried greasing the pole, which just made a mess and gave the squirrel a slip and slide plus a free snack. What finally worked was moving the whole setup to a shepherd's hook 8 feet from anything climbable and adding a 2 foot baffle below, and I have not seen a squirrel on it since last Saturday. Has anyone else dealt with a squirrel that seems way too smart, and what actually kept them off for good?
