Used to think suet feeders were just for cold months, boy was I wrong

I took down my suet cage every April for like 3 years because I figured the fat would go bad in the heat over my deck in Phoenix. Then last August I saw a YouTube video from some guy in Texas showing how woodpeckers actually hit suet year-round if you use the no-melt kind. Have any of you kept suet up through a hot summer and seen more birds than usual?

Oh man, same here! I used to pull mine down in May because I thought the birds would just ignore it once it got warm. Then I left one up by accident last June and the woodpeckers and even some jays were all over it. I switched to the no-melt stuff from a local feed store and it held up fine in 90 degree afternoons. Have you noticed more downy woodpeckers hitting yours too?

Downy woodpeckers are the main ones at mine too. They love that no-melt stuff. Hairy woodpeckers show up sometimes but they're shy. The downys just camp out.
