Debate: Is it better to let your flock free range or keep them in a run? My neighbor swears free range is the only way but I lost 3 hens to a hawk last month.
My neighbor told me free ranging makes chickens happier and healthier, but after losing 3 hens to a hawk I'm second guessing. Has anyone else dealt with this choice and what did you end up doing?

You said free ranging makes chickens happier and healthier, and I totally get that. After losing one of my best layers to a fox, I switched to a big covered run that gives them room to scratch around but keeps them safe. Ever try a movable run to give them fresh ground without the risk?
