Had to pick between a plastic coop and a wooden one for my first flock

I went with the wooden one from Tractor Supply because it looked sturdier, but after 8 months of rain here in Ohio the floor boards are starting to rot out. Now I'm kicking myself for not going with the plastic one that would have lasted longer. Anyone else have this issue with wooden coops or is it just me being dramatic?

Oh man, that is so frustrating after you thought you did the right thing. I honestly think wooden coops are a total gamble unless you live in the desert or something. The problem is nobody tells you that "treated wood" from most stores is barely treated at all. I had a friend who built his own from pallets and that thing rotted in one season. For real though, you're not being dramatic at all. That plastic option is probably the way to go next time if you're in a wet area.

Really feel for you on this one. I went with a wooden coop my first time too, had the exact same problem with the floor rotting out after two wet winters. What ended up saving me was going to the hardware store and getting some metal roof flashing, cut it to size, and tacked it over the worst spots on the floorboards. Also stuck a couple of those plastic garage floor tiles down on top of that and it honestly worked better than a whole new coop. No more soggy wood issues since then. Just something to try before you go spend big money on a new setup.
