Just realized my rooster thinks he's a dog after he started chasing squirrels in the yard last Tuesday.

I watched from my kitchen window in Boise as he sprinted after a grey squirrel for a full 30 seconds, flapping and squawking, before the squirrel escaped up a tree and he just stood there looking confused.

Did he actually chase it like a dog with that full sprint, or was it more of a frantic bird thing where he was all over the place? Because our neighbor's bantam rooster tried to take on a deer once and it was pure chaos, just running in circles. Makes me wonder if your rooster was trying to protect the yard or just thought the squirrel looked fun to chase. Did the squirrel come back the next day at all?

Wonder if the squirrel is telling his friends about the weird barking chicken. Your rooster might be starting some local legends.

Totally! I swear animals have their own gossip network. My neighbor's cat yowls at a specific time every night, and now like three other cats show up to watch. They're definitely sharing intel. It's the same with birds going off about a hawk. Your rooster just became the top story in squirrel news.
