My little barred rock hen laid her first egg yesterday morning

I got her as a chick about five months ago, and she's been acting different for a week. Found the egg, still warm, in the nesting box I set up last month. Anyone else have a bird that took a bit longer to start laying?

Oh, that's great news! My barred rock took about five and a half months, so yours is right on schedule. The wait is always worth it for that first warm egg.

Nothing beats that first egg (it's like a little prize for all the waiting).

Man, I read this article once about how the first egg is usually smaller and sometimes weird shaped. My own hen laid this tiny, almost round egg first. It's true though, that wait makes it special. You check the nesting box every day for weeks. Then suddenly, there it is, like a little surprise just for you.
