My neighbor swore by crushed oyster shells for eggshells - she was dead wrong
So my neighbor Janice told me to feed my hens crushed oyster shells to make their eggshells harder. I started mixing it in their feed back in March. After three weeks, two of my layers stopped laying completely and one started passing weird loose droppings. Turns out too much calcium can mess up their kidneys and throw off their system. I cut it back to just offering it free choice on the side and they’re back to normal now. Has anyone else had a bad reaction to adding supplements without checking first?

Free choice is the only way that ever made sense to me lol

Free choice is a solid foundation. Works until someone picks poorly with the lights off.
