My neighbor told me I was feeding my chickens wrong for 3 years
She pointed out I was giving them cracked corn in the summer. Said it heats them up too much and they drink double the water. Switched to oats and frozen watermelon chunks and they're way more active now. Anyone else get roasted by a neighbor for basic stuff?

Oh man, that neighbor sounds like a backyard chicken guru! I'd be so grateful for that tip honestly. Cracked corn in summer is basically giving them hot cereal when they need a cold salad. Frozen watermelon is genius, I bet they love that stuff. People don't realize how much small changes in feed affect chicken behavior and health. Your neighbor probably saved you from some heat-stressed birds without you even knowing. That kind of roasted is actually a blessing in disguise.

Wait, did she actually call you out in the moment or just casually drop that knowledge like it was nothing? Because my neighbor just glared at me for a week straight before finally texting me a link to a chicken nutrition blog. I'm curious if she watched you feeding them wrong for three whole years before saying something, or if she just saw it once and couldn't hold it in anymore. That frozen watermelon trick is gold though, I bet they're practically fighting over those chunks now.
