Overheard a guy at the feed store say he doesn't worm his flock at all...

He said 'let nature sort it out' but I saw his birds and they looked rough. How do you decide on a deworming schedule?

My buddy tried that "natural" approach with his goats last year. Lost two good does before he caved and bought the proper meds. Sometimes you gotta help nature along a little bit.

Yeah, my cousin had a similar thing with her chickens. Went all herbal for mites and ended up with a coop full of bald, miserable birds. Vet bill was way more than the mite spray would've been.

Honestly, people get way too freaked out about worms. I've had chickens for like 8 years and I barely ever worm them, just watch their poop and if they look fine I don't mess with them. Yeah your friend's birds looked rough but maybe it's not worms, could be bad feed or something. Unless they're dropping weight or acting sick I don't see the point in dosing them with chemicals every few months. Some of that natural stuff is garbage but most healthy birds can handle a few worms just fine. Ngl I think a lot of it is just people panicking over nothing.
