Rooster ban in my town split my chicken group in half - what's your take?

Last month my HOA in Austin voted to ban roosters after someone complained about the crowing at 5am. I got a warning letter for my 2 roosters and had to rehome them with a farm 30 miles out. Now half my local chicken group says roosters are essential for flock protection and breeding. The other half says they cause drama and noise issues with neighbors. I never realized how split people are on this until it happened to me. Do you keep roosters in your backyard or do you stick to hens only? Has anyone else dealt with a sudden local ban and how did you handle it?

My neighbor Bob got a rooster last year and it was like having a psychotic alarm clock that never learned what weekends are. That bird would start at 4:30 AM no matter what, rain or shine, and Bob thought it was charming. I get why HOAs crack down on them because one loud rooster can make an entire block miserable. But I also get why chicken people love them for protection and baby chicks. It's a tough spot since the guy with the complaint is probably right about the noise, but the chicken crowd thinks they're losing something essential.

That "psychotic alarm clock" line is perfect, my friend had to rehome his rooster for the same reason.
