Showerthought: I read that backyard chickens can lower your property value, not raise it

I was browsing a real estate blog last week and stumbled on a stat saying that 40% of buyers actually view chicken coops as a negative when looking at houses. I always assumed chickens were a selling point, like a garden or a deck. But the article said some see them as a noise or smell issue, especially in tight neighborhoods. Has anyone else run into this or had a buyer complain about your setup?

But isn't it wild how the same people who complain about chicken noise probably have a leaf blower running every Saturday morning? I get the smell thing if you aren't cleaning the coop regularly, but most backyard setups I've seen are pretty low maintenance. The real kicker is that 40% number - you'd think with all the farm-to-table hype people would love having fresh eggs next door. Then again, I know a guy who sold his house and the buyers made him tear down the coop before closing, so maybe it is a bigger deal than I thought. Sounds like location matters a ton too, since tight lots make the noise and smell more obvious compared to a place with acreage.

Tbh that 40% number tracks with what I saw when I sold my last place - the realtor made me disassemble the whole coop and hide it in the garage just for showings. Ngl it was a pain but I get it since my neighbors were already side-eyeing me about the rooster crowing at dawn.
