Thought the predatory mite thing was a gimmick until my coop got scaly mites last spring

My friend Jen thought the same thing, swore it was a gimmick, and then her whole quail setup got hammered with red mites last fall. She ended up spending triple what the predatory mites would have cost on chemical sprays that barely worked and stressed her birds out. Now she pre-orders them every spring without fail, your mileage may vary but that's her story.

My buddy Carl runs a little backyard setup with like 12 hens and he laughed when I told him about the mites. Told me I was buying into some online hype, said he'd just use diatomaceous earth if it ever got bad. Well, last August his whole flock got hit with Northern fowl mites and that DE barely touched them, his birds looked miserable for weeks. He finally broke down and got some Stratiolaelaps scimitus from a local supplier and said it cleared things up in like 10 days. Now he's the one bugging me to split an order with him every spring.
