Am I the only one who thinks most backyard patios are way too small for actual use?

I visited my cousin's new house in Denver last weekend and their builder put in this tiny 8x10 concrete slab off the back door. Like, you can fit a grill and two chairs max. What's the point of that? I've been a firefighter for 10 years and I see these cramped patios everywhere when we're doing inspections. If you're gonna spend $4,000 on concrete at least make it 12x16 so you can actually have people over. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather save up an extra year than end up with a glorified welcome mat. Has anyone else dealt with a builder that pushed back on making the patio bigger?

Totally agree, my builder tried to talk me into a 10x10 and I had to fight for bigger.
