Hot take: I stopped fighting my clay soil with a tiller and just built raised beds instead
For 3 seasons I tried to till my hard clay into something usable out back and it was a losing battle every spring. Then after 2 tries with a borrowed rototiller in April, I gave up and built 4 raised beds with cheap cedar boards from the lumber yard on Route 6. Filled them with a topsoil and compost mix and my peppers and kale did better in one summer than they ever did in the ground. Anyone else make the switch to raised beds, and did you line the bottom with anything or just leave it open to the soil?
