I was wrong about rain barrels for 3 years
Always thought they were just mosquito breeding stations that'd turn green by August. But after borrowing my neighbor's setup during that July drought last year to keep my tomatoes alive, I changed my mind. Anyone else have a backyard project they initially dismissed?

My neighbor did the SAME thing to me with a compost bin. Now I'm the one sneaking her kitchen scraps at night because her compost is BETTER than mine. Funny how that works.

What's the secret ingredient in her pile that makes it so much better than yours? Is it just the ratio of greens to browns or does she have some weird trick like putting coffee grounds from a specific shop in there? I've been trying to get my compost to that level for months and it always comes out looking like wet cardboard.
