TIL a $3 kitchen timer fixed my crooked fence posts

I spent two weekends wrestling with fence posts that kept leaning no matter how much I tamped the gravel. Then my neighbor, who builds decks for a living, watched me for five minutes and handed me a cheap kitchen timer. He said to set it for 90 seconds and work the post with a level in a figure-eight motion during that whole time. I tried it on three new posts last Tuesday, and they came out dead straight, no bracing needed at all. The trick is that patience math, you give each side equal attention instead of rushing when it looks close. Has anyone else used a countdown method for concrete setting or similar stubborn work?

Hold on, did you set the timer for each side separately or one timer for the whole 90 seconds of figure-eighting? Cause three posts straight with no bracing sounds almost too good to be true. Also, were they in concrete or just gravel, because that changes the whole math on my end.
