Vent: blew $600 on a patio pergola kit and it folded in the first real wind
So I bought one of those cheap metal pergola kits online back in March for $600. Put it up over my back patio myself, took me a full weekend plus a buddy helping. Two months later we got a storm with 40 mph gusts and the whole thing twisted like a pretzel. The anchors pulled right out of my concrete slab. I had to cut it apart with a grinder just to haul it to the curb, that was another 4 hours gone. The reviews all said "sturdy" and "easy setup" but nobody mentioned the posts are paper thin aluminum. If I'd spent that $600 on cedar posts and built my own frame, I'd still have a pergola standing today. So what's the move here, do I rebuild with 4x4 cedar or just do a shade sail and call it done?
