Warning: cheap landscape fabric in my garlic bed vs cardboard, and the cardboard won by a mile
I put down that thin black fabric in half my raised beds behind the shed in September and plain cardboard with 3 inches of mulch in the other half. By March the fabric side had weeds punching straight through and bindweed wrapped around every edge, while the cardboard side pulled up clean with barely anything under it. The fabric also shredded when my string trimmer brushed it and now there's plastic bits mixed into the soil I have to pick out. Has anyone found a fabric that actually holds up for more than one season, or is cardboard just the way to go?
