Watching the neighbor build a whole shed with a hand saw changed how I plan my projects
I was out back last Saturday morning drinking coffee when I noticed my neighbor Gary out in his yard with nothing but a hand saw and a tape measure. He was cutting plywood for a shed he's been working on for about 3 weeks now. I walked over to chat and asked why he wasn't using a circular saw, and he said he likes how quiet it is and that he can measure twice and cut once without any setup time. I watched him for maybe 20 minutes and he had two perfect cuts done before I would have even dragged my extension cord out. It got me thinking about how I always rush to grab power tools for everything, even small jobs where they're honestly overkill. Last weekend I built a simple garden box using just a hand saw and a drill, and it took me about 2 hours total with way less cleanup. Now I'm wondering if I've been overcomplicating my whole approach. Has anyone else scaled back to simpler tools for small backyard builds?
