Appreciation post: A stranger at the farmers market gave me the best pie crust advice

They saw me struggling and told me to use vodka instead of water. It makes the dough way easier to work with and comes out super flaky.

Guess they wanted to make sure you had a drink ready after all that work.

Honestly I used to be the type who needed a fancy cocktail after a long day. All the fancy steps and ingredients felt like part of the treat. But something about having a simple, cold beer handed to you just hits different now. It’s not about the drink itself, I mean it’s just a beer. It’s about how straightforward and easy it is when you’re tired. Idk, maybe it’s just me but that changed my whole view on what ‘ready’ really means.

My first attempt at that vodka trick left me with a crust so tough you could patch a roof with it. I clearly missed the part about not actually drinking the vodka while you bake. The whole kitchen was a mess and my pie looked like a sad, lumpy frisbee. It's a miracle I didn't give up baking altogether after that disaster. Some of us are just meant to enjoy the pies, not make them.
