Blew $80 on a used commercial mixer last spring and I'm still not sure if it saved me or scammed me
Found a Hobart mixer on a local swap page back in March, guy in his garage wanted $80 and said it worked fine. Hauled it home and the thing weighed about 90 pounds, took me and my neighbor to get it onto the counter. First two months it was great, mixed up four batches of dough at once and my arms finally got a break from kneading by hand. Then the speed control started jumping around on its own and it threw flour across my whole kitchen more than once. Took it to a repair guy over in Kent and he quoted me $200 just to look at the gears, which is more than I paid for it. Now it sits in the corner covered in a towel while I'm back to doing everything by hand like my grandma did. Anyone here ever fix one of these old tanks yourself, or is it just not worth the trouble?
