My sourdough starter went totally inactive after I moved it to a new spot in the kitchen

I keep my starter, Fred, on top of the fridge, but I moved him to a cooler cabinet last Tuesday. By Friday, he wasn't bubbling at all and smelled like old glue. I had to do two feedings with warm water and put him back on the fridge to wake him up. Has anyone else had a starter just quit from a simple temperature change?

Oh man, temperature is everything. Mine did the same thing near a drafty window. A warm water feed on the counter for a day usually fixes it.

yeah the "old glue" smell is a dead giveaway, mine did the same thing after a draft - @charlie_roberts87 nailed it with the warm water fix. guess my starter's just as dramatic as i am lmao

Oh man, @lilyo30 is totally right about checking the spot first, my starter sulked for three days after I moved it to a colder cabinet.

Ugh, Fred just wanted to stay cozy! That top-of-fridge spot is usually a few degrees warmer than the rest of the kitchen, so moving him was a shock. I always use a digital thermometer to check a new spot for a full day before I move my starter there. It sounds like you did the right thing with the warm water feeds to get him going again. Do you have a warmer spot than the cabinet you could try, like on top of the microwave?
