Serious question, did you all know a cup of flour weighs 4.25 ounces and not 8?
I was at my aunt's place in Dayton helping her bake cookies and she pulled out a kitchen scale, which I always figured was just a fancy extra. She scooped a cup of flour, dropped it on the scale, and it read 4.25 ounces, then showed me that my usual big scoop method was packing in almost double that. That explains why my sugar cookies kept coming out like hockey pucks while hers were soft, I was basically adding a whole extra cup of flour to every batch for two years. Now I weigh everything and my banana bread finally stopped tasting like drywall. Does anyone else weigh their flour or am I the only one who was living in the dark here?
