TIL my bread dough was too wet because I kept using the wrong measuring cup
I spent months wondering why my loaves came out flat and dense... turns out I was packing flour into a dry measuring cup instead of spooning it in. After 4 failed batches I finally weighed it on a scale and saw I was 30 grams over every time. Has anyone else had a simple measuring mistake mess up their whole bake?

Have you tried the spoon and level method? That's what finally fixed it for me, just fluff the flour with a spoon, scoop it into the cup, and level it off with a knife. Also, a kitchen scale is like 15 bucks and will save you so much frustration, trust me on that one.

100% agree with you @karent75, the scale changed my baking game completely!

The spoon and level method helped me a lot too but I actually saw a baker online say that even that can be inconsistent if your flour is really compacted from sitting. That's why I grabbed a scale after hearing they tested it and got different weights every time with the spoon method. 30 grams over is a HUGE difference for bread dough, no wonder your loaves were heavy. My first week with the scale I actually weighed my flour in the cup just to see and I was shocked at how much it varied. Now I just dump flour straight into the bowl until the scale hits 120 grams and my bread has been PERFECT ever since.
