A simple phone call showed me my direct deposit setup was a security risk
For years, I had my paycheck sent to a joint checking account I share with my spouse for bills. Last month, my bank's fraud department called because they saw a new device log into that account from a city three states away. The tip off was realizing that single account was linked to everything, from my mortgage auto-pay to my investment withdrawals. If someone got into it, they could drain multiple systems at once. Has anyone else split their direct deposit to limit exposure like this?

Split your direct deposit, mine goes to a separate account for bills only.

3 accounts here too @tessap98, bill money stays locked away safe.

Yeah, exactly what @tessap98 said. I do the same thing but take it a step further. My direct deposit splits into three accounts. One is for bills that never gets a debit card, another is my main spending account, and a third is just for savings. That way if my daily account gets hit, the bill money and savings are totally separate and safe. It adds maybe ten minutes of setup but saves so much stress.
