I used to balance my checkbook by hand every Friday night, now I just glance at an app. When did you switch?

I thought it was a waste of time until my own check bounced. The app shows pending transactions the paper register never could. Now I can't imagine going back to that old Friday night chore.

Man, I remember my dad showing me how to do that with the carbon copy checks. I switched when my bank gave me one of those little card readers for online banking, had to be around 2008. Felt like magic not having to wait for the paper statement.

A pending transaction showing up is nice and all but a bounced check is a bounced check whether you see it coming or not. @karenm49 you make it sound like the app prevented the bounce when really it just let you know sooner that you messed up. I still keep a running tally in my head and check my balance once a week. Feels like people act like checking accounts are rocket science now.
