I used to write checks for my rent every month, but my landlord in Phoenix just switched to an app that takes a 3% fee. Now I'm looking at other ways to pay.

Tell your landlord that app can take a 3% hike instead. Classic move to squeeze a little more out of you for the "convenience" of giving them money. Might be time to see if they'll take a bag of loose change, the fee on that is just the time it takes to count.

Right, and paying in loose change is supposed to be a power move? The landlord's just gonna stand there while you count out 87 dollars in nickels and dimes in the lobby while everyone else watches. That "time it takes to count" is time you're wasting and time your landlord is paying someone else to sit and wait for you to finish. Meanwhile the app fee is usually a few bucks max, you pay it once, and you're done in 30 seconds. You wanna save three dollars and waste half an hour of your life, go ahead, but don't act like you're sticking it to the man. You're just making yourself look like a pain in the ass tenant.

That bag of change idea is honestly tempting.
