Just paid a $35 wire transfer fee to send money to my niece for her birthday, and it felt like such a burn compared to the instant, free apps we all use now.
Has anyone found a bank that still does free domestic wires for certain account levels, or is that perk totally gone?

Ugh, tell me about it! I had to send a wire for a house down payment last month and my bank slapped me with a 40 dollar fee. It feels like such a rip off when you know it's all digital now. My old credit union used to do them free but I switched for a better savings rate. Are any of the online banks better about this stuff?

My credit union still does free domestic wires if you keep at least 10k in checking, but that's getting rare. I got hit with a 30 dollar fee last year and it felt like such a scam. Most big banks killed that free perk unless you have serious money with them. It's crazy how they still charge so much for something that costs them almost nothing.

Exactly like @spencer199 said, most free wire perks died unless you're parking serious cash. Check if your bank offers a premium checking tier with a lower minimum balance than you'd think. My credit union waives the fee with just a $5k direct deposit setup, might be worth shopping around for that.
