I was at a Chase branch in Portland last month cashing a check, and the teller said 'you know you're losing $7 a month on that account because of the fee structure, right?' I had no idea because I never actually read the fine print. Has anyone else had a random employee point out a hidden cost that totally changed how you handle your money?

You know, I used to think bank tellers were just there to process transactions and didn't really care about the customer. But I had a similar thing happen at Wells Fargo. I'd been paying a $12 monthly maintenance fee for years because I never kept the minimum balance. The teller just casually mentioned it while I was depositing my paycheck. I honestly felt kind of stupid for not noticing sooner. It made me switch to a credit union with no fees at all, and that one conversation probably saved me a couple hundred bucks a year.
