Serious question, my card got skimmed at a gas station in Fresno and I caught it in 20 minutes
I was filling up off Blackstone Ave last Tuesday when my bank texted me about a $47 charge at a store two states away. I froze the card right there in the app, then called the number on the back and they reversed it by the next morning. The weird part is the pump still took my card like nothing was off. Has anyone dealt with a skimmer at the pump, and do you check the reader before you swipe now?
Blackstone and Shaw is where mine got hit two years back, same deal where the pump accepted the card and my phone buzzed about a Best Buy order in Vegas an hour later. Those skimmers sit over the real card slot so the pump reads the strip on the fake one and passes it through, which is why nothing looks broken and the machine acts normal. Now I grab the reader housing and wiggle it every single time, if it lifts up even a little I skip that pump and go inside. I also pay inside with cash or tap to pay, since the tap reader is way harder to fake than the swipe slot. Check the seal stickers on the panel too, if the tape is cut or the sticker is peeled they've been in there. Fresno has had a bunch of these along Blackstone and Shaw, so it's not just bad luck.
