Teller at my old branch saved me $400 in overdraft fees

I was almost done depositing my paycheck at the drive thru. The teller, Maria, asked to see my account history. She spotted I had 3 pending bills set to hit that day. She reordered my transactions to put the deposit first. That one move saved me four overdraft charges at $35 each. Anyone else had a teller go out of their way like that?

Maria basically saved you from paying the bank's "oops you're poor" tax, which is pretty much the only reason anyone should work at a bank. I had a teller once who just stared at me while my account went negative, so you hit the jackpot with that one. Honestly, reordering transactions is a superpower that most tellers just don't bother using, probably because their training videos scroll past it in about three seconds. Your teller must have actually paid attention during the "how to not be a total robot" module. That $400 is basically a free month of groceries or a nice reminder that some humans still work behind that glass.

Is finding a decent bank teller really this life changing for people?
