That week in 2008 when the bank I worked for almost folded on a Tuesday

I was a teller at a regional bank in Ohio. Monday was normal. Tuesday morning the regional manager came in looking pale and told us to expect a run. By noon we had 40 people lined up wanting their cash. We ran out of hundreds by 2pm. The FDIC showed up at 4. We made it through but that was the longest 5 days of my career. Has anyone else been through a real bank run or was that just a 2008 thing?

Couldn't believe it when I read that you ran out of hundreds by 2pm... that's just wild to me. I always figured banks had way more cash stashed away for situations like that. The fact that the FDIC showed up same day makes it sound way more serious than I ever realized. It's scary how fast something like that can just snowball out of control. I remember hearing about those 2008 runs on the news but hearing it from someone who was actually there hits different.
