Appreciation post: the Tuesday in March when 9 walk-ins turned into my best day behind the chair
I have been cutting hair 14 years and most days run about the same, so a packed Tuesday still surprises me. Back on March 12th a burst pipe shut down the shop two doors down, and their customers wandered in while they waited for the plumber. I took 9 walk-ins in 6 hours, sold out of pomade by 2pm, and my tip jar beat a normal Saturday by close to $80. What made it stand out was not the money, it was how calm it felt, nobody rushed and every guy left happy. I keep a note in my drawer with that date on it for the slow days. If you run a chair, what do you do to pull in walk-ins when the foot traffic dies?
What are you doing on the slow days right now, anything at all? Even a cheap sandwich board out front with your hours and a "walk-ins welcome" line pulls people in more than you'd think. Also saying yes to weird requests (beard trim only, quick buzz for a kid) gets folks in the door who come back for full cuts later.
