Client told me my fades looked "muddy" - took me a month to figure out what I was doing wrong
Had this guy come in every 2 weeks for a year and one day he just said my fades looked muddy. I was pissed at first but then I really looked at my work in natural light. Turns out I was rushing the blend between the 1 and 1.5 guard. I slowed down and started using a half guard step in between instead of jumping straight, and the difference was night and day. Any other barbers here had a client call you out on something that actually helped?

The half guard trick is solid. But what flipped the script for me was realizing the issue wasn't just the guards - it was how much pressure I was applying. I was pushing down harder with the 1.5 to try and make it blend, which was actually digging in and creating that muddy look. Lightened up my touch across the whole transition zone and it cleaned up instantly.

Man you just nailed it. I had the exact same problem for months where I was basically attacking the paper with my 1.5, thinking more pressure would force the blend to happen. Total backfire. Once I did the opposite and went featherlight over the transition area, everything smoothed out like magic. It's wild how counterintuitive this stuff is sometimes, lighter touch actually gives you better control in the end.
