Guy in my chair for 15 minutes, then told me his last barber did the fade freehand with no guard
Had a walk in on Saturday at my shop off 5th, older guy, sat down and right away starts explaining how his old barber in Reno never used guards at all, just freehanded the whole fade with clippers and a comb. I nodded and got to work, and about halfway through he says his old guy charged $12 flat, no tip expected, and asked if I could match it since it was basically the same haircut. I told him my price is $30 and it's been that since I opened, and he got quiet for a minute then said the freehand thing was actually because his old barber's guards got stolen. Anyone else get these guys who open with a story to try and talk the price down? How do you handle it without killing the mood in the chair?
