Hit 1000 cuts without a single nicked ear lobe then got two in one day

I was feeling pretty good about myself after hitting that 1000 cut mark back in March. Had been keeping a tally on my shop mirror with dry erase marker just for my own tracking. Then last Tuesday I had this guy come in who kept jerking his head around trying to talk to me about his vacation. I nicked him twice on the same ear within five minutes. Felt like a total rookie again. Has anyone else celebrated a milestone only to have the universe humble you right after?

My personal best was three nicks in thirty seconds once, still holds the record in my shop. The universe loves a good joke at your expense right when you get cocky, doesn't it. Guess we just gotta keep the tally and laugh about it later.

Respectfully, I see it a little different. Those little nicks aren't just the universe joking on us. They're reminders to slow down and pay attention. When I get too confident, that's usually when I end up rushing and making mistakes. I think keeping a tally is fine, but laughing about it later only helps if you actually learn something from it. Otherwise you're just repeating the same bad habits and blaming bad luck.
