Hot take: the clipper oil at that barber expo in Chicago was a total letdown

I went to the Midwest Barber Expo in Chicago last month and tried out this new clipper oil from a booth called BladeGlide. They were charging $18 for a tiny 2oz bottle and it felt just like standard mineral oil to me. I ended up buying a big bottle of Wahl oil for $7 that works way better and doesn't gum up after a few uses. Has anyone else tried one of those fancy oils and felt like it was overhyped?

Whoa wait, $18 for 2oz of clipper oil? That's insane lmao. I would've been so mad if I dropped that and it felt exactly like the cheap stuff. BladeGlide sounds like they're just riding on the hype of the expo to fleece people who don't know better.

Yeah, I've been burned by that exact kind of thing before. Bought some overpriced "professional grade" oil at a show once and it was literally just rebottled mineral oil with a fancy label. Here's the thing, if it really was special you'd feel a difference in how the blades run after a few days, not just the first cut. The cheap stuff works fine for most people, especially if you clean your clippers regularly and don't let the gunk build up. Just stick with whatever you normally buy and save the extra cash for something that actually matters, like a good pair of shears.
