Just read that the average barber career lasts over 20 years, which is way longer than I thought.
Saw it in a trade magazine article from last month. Makes you think about the long haul, what's the oldest pair of shears you've ever seen still in use?

My old barber still uses the same shears he bought in the 80s, cuts just fine.

That's a long time for a tool to hold up. @wesley801's story makes me wonder if older shears were just built better, or if it's more about the skill of the person using them. What kind of care goes into keeping them sharp for that many years?

Older shears were just built better" really got me thinking. I used to figure tools just wore out after a while no matter what, but hearing about those 80s shears still cutting fine changed my mind. Guess good steel and proper care can really make things last way longer than we expect.
